Kanoe4Kids is the creation and inspiration of Money Advisers Unley Principal Scott Matthews
What is the reasoning behind Kanoe4kids? Why paddle 2,250km's constantly for 42 days?
Kanoe4Kids is an opportunity to raise money for the children of "Make-A-Wish" at the same time promoting Make-A-Wish® Australia.
Scott has been involved with Make-A-Wish® Australia through his company for many years. He has seen the magic they bring to children who have started off in life with a serious illness. Paddling the River Murray is a challenge for Scott Matthews - who has no prior canoeing or kayaking experience.
Kanoe4Kids is an opportunity for Scott to paddle the River Murray and raise money for Make-A-Wish® Australia.
Scott believes that "Together, we can raise money for the children of Make-A-Wish® Australia and be a part of the magic".
Scott graduated from the University of Adelaide with a major in Freshwater Ecology, Environmental Management. He worked on the River Murray after graduating and is passionate about the demise and the future of the River Murray.
Scott was given a life challenge in 1999 when he was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Although not actually life threatening, Crohn's cannot be cured - yet. At this time Scott realised he was more fortunate than some other people, and he undertook to help those less fortunate than him. Scott considers himself "lucky" he has Crohn's and he is able to make Kanoe4Kids happen.
"Kanoe4Kids is not simply asking for donations" Scott says. "It is actively getting people involved in our event through United For A Wish or one of our various fundraisers. Every one can be involved in Kanoe4Kids."
Our goal is $100,000, however every dollar raised assists Make-A-Wish® Australia to grant another wish and bring untold magic to the life of a seriously ill child. For that reason we will not stop at $100,000 and the more people who participate in Kanoe4Kids the more money we can raise. The more money we raise, the more enjoyment we can share with these children.
Scott will paddle 12 hours a day for 42 days. Together we hope to raise more than $100,000 - SO... If you believe in hope... if you believe in determination... if you believe in magic... please believe in Kanoe4Kids.
Evan Drage will be a support paddler for 2 weeks of this exciting journey. Evan is a valued client of Money Advisers Unley, Architect for Matrix Building Group and friend of Scott Matthews. He enthusiastically embodies the philosophy of Kanoe4Kids and Make-A-Wish® Australia.
